Industry(s): Steel & Heavy Pulp & Paper
Notes
The UK Sugar Beet Industry, processing circa 10 million tonnes of raw material a year and supporting some 20,000 jobs, is highly seasonal with processing campaigns typically lasting between September and March.
Following the early stages of the sugar production cycle (cleaning, slicing and initial extraction by diffusion) the residual vegetable material is mechanically pressed to extract as much remaining sugar as possible. The Pulp Press Gear Boxes driving the process are absolutely critical during this continual operation and it is essential that they remain reliable due to the extreme cost of downtime.
As part of an ongoing drive to ensure/improve this, a major UK manufacturer has installed a Magnomâ„¢ Process Unit on the lubrication circuit of one of their Pulp Press Transmissions thus offering significantly enhanced protection. Early results are highly encouraging, since installing the Magnomâ„¢ gearbox performance has improved.
