Notes

A large international steel company produces both hot and cold rolled coils at their 500-acre site in Malaysia.

steel plant interior Magnom’s ™ Malaysian distributor – Sense Services Sdn Bhd approached the steel company’s maintenance team to show the benefits and cost savings that incorporating the Magnom™ technology could bring.

The transmission lubrication circuit on a cold rolling line was found to be highly contaminated with ferrous particles. Despite the use of both a primary and secondary filtration system large amounts of fine ferrous contamination were still present in the bearing lubrication circuit.

If left in the system unchecked this ferrous contaminant would have the effect of continually abrading the bearings, producing premature wear and ultimately leading to catastrophic failure.

Sense Services fitted a Magnom™ Process Unit In the lubrication circuit to prove the effectiveness of the Magnom™ technology and the savings that it could produce.

The maintenance team were so keen to see the results of the Magnom™ test, that they lifted and inspected the core after only 16 days.

Even after such a short period of time, when lifted and visually inspected, the core was found to contain large amounts of ferrous contaminant. Contaminant that had not been captured by the primary and secondary filters already in use!

A further 7 units were purchased for other lines on the strength of the findings in this application. The maintenance team view it as providing peace of mind that the most damaging of contaminants within any system, the ferrous, is being removed and the chain reaction of wear process halted.

Direct cost savings can be drawn from Magnom’s™ installation, with repair and parts costs as well as costly downtime all being reduced.
